To ‘rest’, to ‘relax’ and to ‘restore’ is essential to everyone especially in today’s society and stressful lifestyle. To ‘rest’ deeply is to experience relaxation, where there is effortlessness, quietness and peace.

Restorative Yoga (RY) is postures adapted from classical yoga asana, where the practice focus is relaxing the body in restful supported positions. Each pose is usually held for few minutes, gradually extending to longer hold for the experienced.

Consistent practice balances the autonomic nervous system, therefore supporting the environment to renew and heal.

Carefully selected from Adelene’s self-practice series, this practice-based classes offers ‘active’ relaxation followed by quiet sitting, to allow time and space to renew and rejuvenate the body and the mind.

£25

Without relationship, there is no existence. To be is to be related.” J. Krishnamurti

The intent of partner yoga is to bring people together through movement, play, breath, stillness, touch and intimacy. This type of practice acknowledges and honours the power of two people to transcend limitations, strengthen relationships and ultimately feel a deep sense of connection to the Divine.

Partner yoga can be practiced by any two people - friends, siblings, parents and children, lovers, even strangers!

In partner yoga it’s not about how perfectly you execute a posture, it’s about how much you enjoy the posture. It can be a vehicle for gently taking down walls and help build bridges towards a more harmonious world.

This is an opportunity to turn pain into growth, fear into courage, resistance into acceptance. When you can direct your self- criticism and look at yourself with curiosity and compassion, you have moved a mountain. You have found a new, different way to be you.

If you can find the ability to laugh at your shortcomings and be amused by your insecurities, life becomes less serious and more fun. It is when we slip into the moments of being that we find wholeness. We discover that touch transforms and health and well-being comes with lightness and joy.

3hr Kirtan Celebration with Turkantam and Sivani Mata

With Sivani Mata Francis, Turkantam .
11 Nov 2017, 18:30–21:30

Join us to share in an extended evening of Kirtan with special guest Turkantam

£10 in advance, £15 on the door

Book Now

Join us to share in an evening of Kirtan. Singing the profoundly healing sounds of sanskrit mantra effortlessly drops our awareness out of our busy minds and into our hearts. Kirtan is from the path of Bhakti Yoga (pure love and compassion) and responds to where you are it and what you need in that moment, whether that is to bring you to a space of calm or elation. It can be deeply moving and incredibly joyful.

For this evenings Kirtan we are excited to be celebrating the festival of Mahakala Bhairava Jayanti. In Bhakti Yoga tradition, this is the celebration of the fiercer, darker side of life. As nature’s cyclical rhythm beds the autumn harvest and settles into the darkness of winter, we too have the opportunity to embrace shedding what we no longer need, and allowing space for reflection and rest, so we are ready to plant our seeds for spring and the next cycle. In sanskrit, Mahakala translates as the “great time”. To honour Bhairava is to honour the great cycle of time itself and the freedom that comes when we accept and surrender to change, however difficult that may be.

About Turkantam

Turkantam has been sharing kirtan for over 30 years and his music is infused with  sounds of India and the Mediterranean (his spiritual home is in India where he spent time with his Guru Haidakhand Baba, and his birth place is Italy). Subtle, energetic, emotive, passionate and transcendental, chanting with Turkantam will inspire you to dance, cry, embrace, love and give thanks for being alive.

In this moving and insightful workshop women will be invited to explore how body image impacts their personal experience of pregnancy and how yoga and mindfulness can be used to support body-awareness and acceptance of change.

Pregnancy and motherhood can be transformative in women's lives. While the experience of being pregnant can feel wondrous and beautiful, for many women it is also a time of emotional turmoil resulting in both positive and negative emotional states. The experience of being pregnant can be both physically and emotionally demanding and the pressures a modern pregnant woman faces include changes in body image which can be influenced by contradictory and confusing messages from the media

The first in a series of workshops exploring the psychological, emotional and physical changes in pregnancy, this yoga and mindfulness workshop will invite women to explore their relationship with their changing body. Through movement, mindfulness and enquiry, women will be guided into working with their bodies and mind to bring insight to conscious and unconscious behaviours, thoughts and patterns related to body image that can impact physical and psychological wellbeing during pregnancy. The workshop will include embodied movement, mindfulness, written enquiry and discussion.

Sensing & Feeling: Decoding the Messages of the Body Through Asana

With Adelene Cheong

Join Adelene Cheong for an exploration of sensation in the body and how we can better tune into that sensation through our yoga practice.

£35

Book Now

‘Sensation is the main language and communication between our body and mind.’ ~ Adelene Cheong

So why or when does sensation present itself in our bodies? Where do we feel it? What is the quality and texture of it? What does it mean? Why does it keep coming back? What is it trying to tell me?

In this afternoon workshop, we will discuss and understand the process of sensation arising, and the biochemical alteration in varying emotional experiences. When does a sensation, usually undesirable ones, become chronic.

We will then take this into experiential exploration through movement and asana practice. Learn how to sharpen our awareness, identify and decode, then choosing appropriate response in the moment.

This workshop aims to refresh one’s attentiveness, refine awareness and sensitivity to changes in experiences, taking the practice to the next level and depth.

Book Now

You are warmly invited to join senior teachers, Erika and Natasha, for two hours of blissful sadhana to relax your body/mind and uplift your spirit.

Erika will open the session with a deeply restorative Yoga Nidra practice within a live sound bath from Natasha.  Erika will then guide us through a thorough awakening of the body using breath work, flowing movements and yoga postures to help release accumulated stress and tension, open the pranic channels, and to revitalise the whole system.

In sitting we will be led by Natasha through some vocal warm ups preparing us to chant the life affirming Gayatri mantra in the traditional call and response style, accompanied by classical Indian instruments, the tanpura, and tabla.

There are two levels of well-being; the physical, and the mental. While the foods we take in address the first, it is through mantra that our mental and psychological healing is taken care of.

Mantra can be seen as a way of harmonising ourselves with the power of that which is higher than us.  Mantra is a form of meditation (dhyana). It is in the intention and attention of its repetition that the true power of mantra is released.

The Gayatri mantra is dedicated to the Sun Deity, Savitri, from the Rig Veda. It is held in high regard with citations in many important texts such as the Bhagavd Gita and some Upanishads.

In India students recite this mantra in order to acquire all aspects of knowledge. It is said that by chanting this mantra the face will shine bright, the eyes will sparkle, intelligence and concentration will grow, anger will be silenced, and fulfilment is acquired.

Take this rare opportunity to experience the magic of mantra meditation in the glorious, traditional Indian style expertly guided by Natasha.  It will wake up parts of your brain that no other yoga can reach!

A yoga and meditation workshop for people who make art (of any kind, for love or money or both), to help with generating ideas, working through creative blocks and accessing the deep creative power within.

The workshop begins with a guided meditation based on studies of the relationship between yoga and creativity.

Then, a strong vinyasa flow yoga practice, sequenced with anatomical intelligence, and weaving in poses, yoga mythology and theories from anthropological research that all come together to bring the practitioner closer to their creative core, and banish the fear of not being good enough.

This strong practice gradually comes down to more gentle, restorative postures, and then some time for idea-making; you will be given the space to sit on the mat and explore, in writing or with visual art, the openness and ideas that the practice has brought up. Finally, this physical and creative work gives way to a deep, guided relaxation to integrate the ideas and inspiration gained, so that you can go away with a renewed confidence and belief in your creative ability.

Inviting Harmony

With Maren Weege
25 Nov 2017, 18:30–21:00

A flow and restorative retreat with live acoustic music to wake up to.

£30

Book Now

A flow and restorative retreat with live acoustic music to wake up to.

If you feel the need to recharge your batteries in the depth of November darkness and to come home to a peaceful place inside yourself, this mini retreat is for you. You will be warmly welcomed and guided through the practices in the spirit of curiosity, honesty and compassion in order to settle into a state of inner harmony – exactly as you are.

The intention of this workshop is to offer practices and guidance that open space for you to experience a deeper awareness and acceptance of yourself one breath at a time. There is no end goal in this journey, nothing to achieve because - ironically - self-acceptance comes when we stop striving, reaching or forcing. The retreat is made up of three parts: breathing and movement, sounding and meditation, restorative yoga and live music.

We will begin with a yoga nidra to set the tone for the entire experience, followed by breath awareness and body awareness exercises which will turn into more classical yoga postures and breath initiated movement. To bridge over into the restorative part of the retreat, we will join our voices in a sounding practice followed by a meditation. The last hour of the retreat is dedicated to deep rest and the offering of live acoustic music towards the end of the journey.

The special treat is the offering of live acoustic guitar and vocals towards the end of the final relaxation pose. Maren has been writing, playing and singing for her own enjoyment for years and more recently began to share her music on invitation by other teachers at the end of yoga nidras and during savasana as well as in her workshops for women. The choice of songs will be in tune with the intention of the retreat and slowly guide you from deep relaxation to a more active mindset leaving you ready to meet the outside world.

Discover Ayurveda for Better Health

With Marianne Simonin
26 Nov 2017, 14:00–16:00

This introductory workshop aims at introducing the benefits of Ayurveda, which is the ancient traditional medical system from India.

£25

Book Now

This workshop aims at introducing the benefits of Ayurveda, which is the ancient traditional medical system from India.  Sharing the same philosophy as Yoga, it looks at each individual as a micro-universe; by combining a simple daily routine, right food and herbal preparation suitable for your constitution, it provides a way to greater health and minimises disease formation.

During the two hours you will learn the qualities the doshas, how they relate to the five great elements, and their impact on your health when they become imbalanced.  The first part will introduce you to the basic principles of Ayurveda, and will include an interactive practice (pairing-up), based on observation and feedbacks.  During the second part we will look more at some common conditions, and how integrating an ayurvedic lifestyle can help you regain balance.  In Ayurveda certain food becomes medicine, so you will learn how to use common spices to boost your health, and the importance of incorporating the 6 tastes in your cooking.

Who is it for?
This workshop is for total beginners as well as those who already have some understanding and would like to consolidate their knowledge.

What to bring:
Please bring a notebook and a pen, as taking notes will be helpful as a reminder of the learning, as well as when doing the pair-up exercises.

Embracing Quiet: A Yin Yoga Workshop

With Anna Taylor
9 Dec 2017, 14:00–17:00

An afternoon of yin and restorative yoga to drop inwards, quieten and revive.

£35

Book Now

An afternoon of yin and restorative yoga to drop inwards, quieten and revive.

Eastern traditions recognise that emotional and physical wellbeing comes from balancing the opposing energies of yin (calm/cooling) & yang (dynamic/fiery). Modern, city culture, however - which often promotes striving and achieving over resting and reflecting - can often make this hard to achieve. This workshop will enable us to redress the balance, inviting us to drop into the stiller, quieter practices of yin and restorative yoga.

In the largely floor-based practice of yin yoga (not a downward dog in sight!) poses are held at a comfortable edge for several minutes. Using props to both support and enhance the practice these longer holds allow time to be attentive to our shifting internal landscape as we gradually soften and open at our own pace.

In the later portion of the practice we will drop into deeper stillness through the beautiful practice of restorative yoga. With the body supported by props, but before the edge of stretch, our nervous system can drop into a deep state of relaxation so that we can return to our lives feeling a little more balanced, revived and nourished.
