Yoga for Back Care: 4 Week Course
With Adelene Cheong
18 April – 16 May 2018, 20:00–21:30
Experts recognise that the increasingly sedentary lifestyle that we lead contribute greatly to the back pain epidemic that is now being experienced in the Western world. Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives.
Some medical professionals may suggest yoga. But how and where do we begin? What do we do with discomfort in the body? How could the practice be incorporated into daily activities?
These classes progress week by week, with a varying focus each week. There will be discussions, asana practice, and breathing techniques, aiming to develop awareness and create space for developing a safe personal practice to support a healthy back... and mind. Students are encouraged to take notes if it is helpful.
The course is suitable for anyone with scoliosis, kyphosis, lordosis, neck and shoulder discomfort, lower back pain, sciatica, sacroiliac instability and general back pain. Not suitable for first trimester.

Meet Michael James Wong, founder of BOYS OF YOGA
“To most guys, yoga is pink lycra and vegan chicks. It’s breathing deeply while doing poses named after animals and feelings. It’s done in dimly lit rooms with candles and incense, followed by gluten-free cupcakes and kale smoothies. And if that’s your mentality then you’re not alone. But it doesn’t mean it’s right,” says Michael Wong, founder of BOYS OF YOGA. Read the full interview here:
