Joyously Hippy & Twisty: Ground & Detox Before the Festivities
With Margherita Dal Pra
10 December 2017, 14:00–16:00
A twisting and hip opening practice to help cultivate Samana and Apana Vayu, the pranic (energetic) forces that govern digestion, assimilation and elimination of food as well as of experience.
Samana is the energy of assimilation, extraction and digestion of your food nutrients, the world around you, ideas and inspiration. By keeping our samana vayu strong, we have good physical digestion, but are also able to feed and nurture the rest of ourselves.
Whilst it’s important to digest, it’s important to eliminate the waste of our food, but also of emotions and thoughts. This is where Apana vayu comes in. This energy makes us feel grounded, clear and also relaxed as practices that cultivate apana also trigger the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system. We will look at the physical aspects of the poses (principles of alignment) as well the subtle aspects (the above mentioned energy forces).
Expect a juicy creative hip opening practice, great for detoxifying and grounding as well as a deep twist practice offering us the perfect energy for some much needed internal winter “spring” cleaning and centering at this time of year. A deep savasana and meditation to end the class will help us truly move into the holiday time smoothly!
All levels welcome except absolute beginners, regular practice is recommended. Please bring a pen and paper.
