Monday Beginners Yoga Course - 6 Weeks

This 6 week course introduces the classic body of yoga postures (asanas) and basic sequences, including sun salutations. A focus on healthy alignment principles and an introduction to breathing practices (pranayama) will help build strength, flexibility and create a foundation for your yoga practice.

In this course, students will receive personal attention from an experienced teacher week to week providing an ideal environment for learning.  Building upon the core poses and working at a pace that ensures learning, students will build strength and knowledge, as well as cultivate greater mental clarity and calm. The Beginner Course is way to begin your practice and discover yoga in a safe and fun space.  Perfect for beginners, people who like to learn sequentially or anyone looking to revisit the fundamentals of yoga.

On completion of the course you will have the experience, confidence and knowledge to attend any of The Life Centre’s Yoga Level 1 or Level 1-2 classes.

Weeks 1 and 2 of the course will be taught by Mark Hill and week 3-5 will be taught by Leone Roberts.

This 4 week Beginners Course is for everyone - older and younger, men and women, athletes and desk-bound bodies.  You’ll learn essential poses and simple breathing techniques each week to build flexibility and strength, reduce stress, sleep better, boost your metabolism, and increase sustainable energy.

Lisa emphasises deep understanding of how your body works (bio-mechanics), and outlines each practice’s beneficial effects on your life. The course will help you to feel confident in level 1 classes. Lisa offers some optional, simple ‘yoga homework’ to help you de-stress in between sessions.

You’ll learn in an exploratory, playful, and intelligent way.
•    A clear course format helps you to know where you’re going week upon week-so you can chart your learning through the course
•    Each session focuses on a different ‘class’ or type of pose and specific area of the body so you understand what you’re doing and why
•    Lisa explains basic yoga ideas and philosophy in a practical, down-to-earth way

Thursday Ashtanga Yoga Beginners Course - 4 weeks

This 4 week course is perfect for beginners interested in the inspiring and dynamic practice of Ashtanga Yoga and those who wish to revisit foundations. Students will learn the correct alignment of the postures while linking the breath to each movement and so will be led safely through the standing sequence, breathing and relaxation.

By the end of the course, each student will have learned a sequence of moves to practice on their own and will have the experience, confidence and knowledge to attend any of The Life Centre Ashtanga Level 1 or Level 1-2 classes and morning Mysore self practice.

This six week beginners course has been crafted for students interested in Yoga and Mindfulness.

Sandi will give a brief talk each week on the History of Yoga, Basic Anatomy of Breathing, Yoga Theory and Philosophy. Practice will cover the the classic body of yoga postures in a safe and relaxed environment where questions are welcomed and Mindfulness is facilitated. A focus on healthy alignment and Pranayama (breathing practices) will help cultivate strength and understanding as well as cultivate greater mental clarity and calm.

Students will receive personal attention and individual needs will be supported. 

These sessions are non competitive and a great opportunity to encourage you to carve-out time for your own well being.
