Founded in 1993, The Life Centre is a friendly haven, where yoga, Pilates and natural therapies inspire well-being. We believe firmly in the values of community; we are an integral part of the communities in Islington, Notting Hill and Manchester, play our part in the wider London and UK yoga communities, and, perhaps most importantly, help to create a community among our students and clients.
Who we are
The Life Centre is a friendly haven, where yoga, Pilates and natural therapies inspire well-being in the London communities of Notting Hill and Islington, in our new home in Manchester, and for our many visitors from further afield - we love how our community spirit lifts everyone working or visiting here.
We know how vital it is to have the best teachers and therapists and to offer a fantastic choice of yoga styles and therapies. We understand how to nurture relationships in our specialised pregnancy, and mums & babies classes, and how to ease newcomers into a regular practice, with our beginners’ courses. Plus, we run exciting workshops with resident and guest teachers whose experience and imagination brings a freshness to yoga on each occasion.
Founded in Notting Hill 1993, The Life Centre is one of London’s oldest centres dedicated to yoga, Pilates and therapies. Over the years, many (maybe even most) of the UK’s top yoga and Pilates teachers have passed through the big wooden door of our Notting Hill centre, a beautiful quiet converted house and chapel – and several of our earliest students (and some of our original teachers and staff) are still Life Centre regulars. In 2011, we were delighted to open our second location, in Islington, a bright and cheery space with 2 large studios in a converted warehouse which offers a similarly broad range of classes to those in Notting Hill. In 2003, we set up our yoga education arm, Yogacampus, which offers one of the UK’s very top yoga teacher training programmes, as well as a wide range of other specialist courses and workshops. And, in 2016, we opened our doors to the yoga community in Manchester.
We believe firmly in the values of community: by being an integral part of our local communities in Islington, Notting Hill and Manchester, by playing our part in the wider London and UK yoga communities, and, perhaps most importantly, by helping to create a community among our students and clients. At The Life Centre, you will be welcomed with a smile, and, after a few visits, probably greeted by name. We pride ourselves on employing friendly and knowledgeable staff with the experience to answer your questions about yoga, Pilates and therapies. We also believe that there is a yoga path for everyone: female or male, young or old, stiff or bendy; that that there are many authentic paths of yoga, all of which deserve respect; and that our teachers and therapists should be well trained, but should each retain their own unique style, approach and creativity. Above all, we believe that The Life Centre is about YOU!
Meet the Teachers
Meet Michael James Wong, founder of BOYS OF YOGA
“To most guys, yoga is pink lycra and vegan chicks. It’s breathing deeply while doing poses named after animals and feelings. It’s done in dimly lit rooms with candles and incense, followed by gluten-free cupcakes and kale smoothies. And if that’s your mentality then you’re not alone. But it doesn’t mean it’s right,” says Michael Wong, founder of BOYS OF YOGA. Read the full interview here:
Womb Yoga - A Nurturing and Revitalising Session for Women
With Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
This therapeutic and deliciously feminine approach to yoga especially for women integrates rhythmic asana (postures) with breath, sound, mudra (gesture) and bandhas (pelvic floor locks and seals) to enhance awareness of our inner woman’s wisdom and elemental connections.
