In your free time you may like to treat yourself to some Ayurvedic treatments in the in-house spa. India has a rich history of a holistic approach to wellness, with ancient Ayurvedic practices designed to provide mental and physical balance. Translating literally as ‘Science of Life’, this five thousand year old system of health care aims to bring harmony within yourself and with nature. The spa treatments are guided by the Ayurvedic ethos of well-being within and without and perfectly complements your yoga practice. There is an extensive menu of healing therapies from the beautiful massage hut close by.
You may also like to indulge in a little shopping. Patnem has a lovely selection of shops, just one long ‘high street’, or take a rickshaw to neighbouring Palolem for a much wider selection of goods. You can also visit some local temples, take a look at a spice farm or spend the day at another beach along the coast. A sunset or sunrise dolpin spotting boat trip is also included in the price of your retreat.
How to get there
Patnem beach is about an hour and a half drive from Dabolim airport in Goa, where international charter and domestic flights land. Thomas Cook offers direct flights from the UK. Many international scheduled flights land in Mumbai, an hour’s flight from Goa. A driver can be arranged to collect you from the airport costing fifty euros for a two way transfer (or twenty five one way).
The cost includes all yoga, full board: all meals and refreshments, accommodation in comfortable ocean view, twin bedded or double beach cabanas with attached bathrooms. Non-yoga partners are welcome, prices on request. You will need a visa to visit India. The new online E-Visa lasts for thirty days and is much cheaper than ever before for UK nationals.

Accommodation is in charmingly simple shared ensuite beach hut bungalows. As we will be sharing the retreat centre with other guests who are doing ‘drop-in’ classes with local teachers the number of huts that are available to our group is limited we would like to encourage people to share. Often a large proportion of people coming on Jeff’s yoga holidays will be coming alone so sharing is part of a retreat experience and is a great way to make new friends. Consider coming with a friend, bringing a non-yoga partner or if not we can pair you with someone else of the same sex who is also travelling alone, however for those who prefer their own space singles are available.
‘Deciding to go to India for the first time, on my own to a retreat where I didn’t know anyone else turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made! My week in Goa with you (at Bamboo) really was one of the best experiences of my life. I escaped my routine, met and talked to like-minded yogis who were all so welcoming and open and really went deep into my own practice. Not only did it reaffirm my love for yoga but reminded me how important it is to take time out for myself.
Jeff you inspired me so much with your warmth as well as your humor and your knowledge, range of inspirational readings and creating beautiful practices is something I will really treasure.’ (Sarah, 2017)
Arrival day is on Sat 10th February 2018 when we will have a welcome session in the late afternoon and then there will be 2 yoga classes per day. Mid week there will be one shorter afternoon practice to allow for a sunset dolphin boat trip (which is included in the holiday price), or more relaxation on the beach!
The morning session at 8am will be around 2.5 hours and will be followed by a delicious vegetarian brunch. It will be the more vigorous and dynamic practice and will usually include some meditation and/or pranayama. A creative, playful and explorative ‘deep slow flow’ asana practice emphasizing the breath, mindfulness and skillful appropriate action that will – by using and building up through a range of appropriate options – allow students, from the less experienced to the more advanced, to discover how to find and work peacefully at the level appropriate to them.
The afternoon session at 4.30pm is around 1.5/2 hours and will be a more mellow, soothing and nurturing practice, delving into areas such as yin yoga, restoratives, pranayama, chakras and meditation. A delicious vegetarian evening buffet will then be served.
The rest of the time will be free to do as you please…enjoying the beach, hammocks, massage, reading, optional activities and excursions, coconut trees and sunsets etc!
An immersion into the practices of creative vinyasa, alignment based flow, myths, mantra, mudra and meditation in magical Goa.
There will be a longer and more dynamic soulful vinyasa practice in the morning before the breakfast brunch is served – the late afternoon practice will focus more on restorative practices, slow flow, pranayama, meditation, deep relaxation ~ and of course storytelling of the Indian myths! This retreat is open to all levels of practitioner and Tanja will offer options and modifications to suit everyone. Mid-week there will be one day with no yoga to allow time for longer excursions.
Devarya Wellness is set amidst lush tropical gardens just a few metres away from the sandy beaches of Morjim.
