Yoga Retreat in South Goa, India

With Jeff Phenix
Bamboo Yoga Centre, Patnem Beach, south Goa, India
10–17 Feb 2018

Jeff Phenix (who trains teachers and teaches at London’s leading yoga centres, Triyoga and The Life Centre) is returning for a very special week of transformative and inspirational yoga at the stunning beach yoga holiday venue, Bamboo Yoga Retreat, which is located right at the end of Patnem Beach in South Goa.

Considered one of the most amazing spaces to practice yoga in Goa, we will be practicing in the open-air Shala, which has soul-feeding views over Patnem beach and out to sea. There will be two long yoga sessions and day, 2 delicious buffet meals and an optional sunset dolphin boat trip.

Jeff is very experienced at teaching students of all levels and the depth of his experience, playful approach, ability to challenge students to safely push their boundaries and his love of pranayama and meditation will give you the perfect opportunity to deepen your practice both physically and internally. In this amazing environment right on a beautiful beach you can enjoy making new friends, eating delicious, healthy food and can return home feeling recharged, energized and relaxed.

Please see www.bamboo-yoga-retreat.com for more pictures and details.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in charmingly simple shared ensuite beach hut bungalows. As we will be sharing the retreat centre with other guests who are doing ‘drop-in’ classes with local teachers the number of huts that are available to our group is limited we would like to encourage people to share. Often a large proportion of people coming on Jeff’s yoga holidays will be coming alone so sharing is part of a retreat experience and is a great way to make new friends. Consider coming with a friend, bringing a non-yoga partner or if not we can pair you with someone else of the same sex who is also travelling alone, however for those who prefer their own space singles are available.
‘Deciding to go to India for the first time, on my own to a retreat where I didn’t know anyone else turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made! My week in Goa with you (at Bamboo) really was one of the best experiences of my life. I escaped my routine, met and talked to like-minded yogis who were all so welcoming and open and really went deep into my own practice. Not only did it reaffirm my love for yoga but reminded me how important it is to take time out for myself.

Jeff you inspired me so much with your warmth as well as your humor and your knowledge, range of inspirational readings and creating beautiful practices is something I will really treasure.’ (Sarah, 2017)

Schedule

Arrival day is on Sat 10th February 2018 when we will have a welcome session in the late afternoon and then there will be 2 yoga classes per day. Mid week there will be one shorter afternoon practice to allow for a sunset dolphin boat trip (which is included in the holiday price), or more relaxation on the beach!

The morning session at 8am will be around 2.5 hours and will be followed by a delicious vegetarian brunch. It will be the more vigorous and dynamic practice and will usually include some meditation and/or pranayama. A creative, playful and explorative ‘deep slow flow’ asana practice emphasizing the breath, mindfulness and skillful appropriate action that will – by using and building up through a range of appropriate options – allow students, from the less experienced to the more advanced, to discover how to find and work peacefully at the level appropriate to them.

The afternoon session at 4.30pm is around 1.5/2 hours and will be a more mellow, soothing and nurturing practice, delving into areas such as yin yoga, restoratives, pranayama, chakras and meditation. A delicious vegetarian evening buffet will then be served.

The rest of the time will be free to do as you please…enjoying the beach, hammocks, massage, reading, optional activities and excursions, coconut trees and sunsets etc!

Revive and Thrive Spring Retreat

With Erika Tourell
Suryalila, Andalusia, southern Spain
14–21 Apr 2018

Join us for an inspirational week of purification and rejuvenation in the gorgeous spaciousness of this spectacular venue. Erika draws on almost thirty years of personal practice to offer a wide variety of yoga and meditation to help harness the awakening energies of spring, to help heal, uplift and transform in a gentle way. This will be our fourth year at this magical place, much loved by all who visit, many returning year after year.

Suryalila is a beautiful old renovated olive farm consisting of eight houses that form the cortijo. In typical Spanish style there are two inner courtyards, one of which blooms with orange and lemon trees. The property sits on 45 acres of land and is still a working olive farm with 350 olive trees. A huge variety of organic vegetables and fruits are grown here and chickens are kept for eggs. The food is always outstanding, delicious vegetarian feasts are offered daily, catering for vegans and those with food intolerances as well.

Suryalila is nestled serenely in a large open valley in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazelema. This majestic mountain range can be seen looming large on the horizon behind Suryalila. A striking part of the natural beauty of the property is the breathtaking vista extending in all directions: rolling hills, fields of sunflowers, and lakes. There are great opportunities to do some hiking, bike or horse riding, or taking it easy by the salt water pool, using the sauna, and enjoying the wide range of healing therapies on offer.

Erika will be offering four to five hours of practice per day including a wide range of dynamic and restorative yoga, partner work, pranayama, (breath work) meditation, yoga nidra, chanting of sanskrit mantras and some optional ecstatic dance. There will be two afternoons off for excursions further afield – perhaps to visit Jerez, Cadiz, Ronda or Seville or to go hiking in the Grazelema mountain range.

There is a wide range of accommodation on offer from glamping in yurts or bell tents, four bed dormitories, eco-lodges or superior and deluxe double rooms.
The accommodation on the property are all artfully and tastefully furnished and decorated with careful attention to detail. Every room is uniquely beautiful with impeccable Feng Shui.

Prices start at £725.00 for shared accommodation, food and yoga. Flights/transfers not included. Closest airports are Jerez or Seville. (Transfer time to venue is one hour). Early booking is highly recommended for this particular retreat. It sells out every year.

Erika has almost thirty years of yoga, meditation and bodywork experience. She has been teaching in London’s top yoga centres for over seventeen years as well as leading retreats all over the world. Erika is passionate about natural healing and loves to hold the retreat space to offer a precious opportunity to people to experience, through yoga; movement and stillness, sound and silence, challenge and relaxation in a friendly and nurturing environment. Erika is constantly inspired by the transformations that she has witnessed in the lives of people through the healing power of yoga and is eternally grateful to all her teachers.

Sacred & Soulful Spain Retreat

With Tanja Mickwitz
Finca Del Alamo, Almeria, Spain
26 May – 2 Jun 2018

Join Tanja for a Springtime retreat at spectacular Finca del Alamo in Almeria, southern Spain. This week will be an opportunity to embrace the light of summer and fill yourself up with soul nourishment.

We will move through a full spectrum of yogic practices to nurture deep inner connection including creative flow with mindful alignment, mantra, mudra, pranayama, meditation, yoga nidra and restorative yoga. Yogic philosophy and inspiration will be woven through the practices with opportunity for reflection and contemplation. Each day will begin with practice before breakfast and there will be a second practice before dinner. Days will be free for relaxing in the tranquil surroundings, visits to the beach or other local excursions. There will be one day with no yoga to provide an opportunity to rest (lie in!) or make longer trips.

The venue consists of the main house (Finca), which won awards in the 80’s for its striking modernist design. It sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilizations. It has long been a stylish, bohemian family home, also an exotic venue for photo shoots. It has now been adapted to cater for yoga groups. The outlying Cortijo (farm) buildings have been converted in the original local style into charming accommodation, located a couple of hundred yards from the main house. The cortijo has its own swimming pool and a covered outdoor yoga space.

Almeria is Spain’s sunniest region and one of the least visited. Its proximity to North Africa means that the area is semi-desert, dry and dramatic, with imposing mountains and dazzling sea. The venue is on the edge of one of Europe’s most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline.
It’s an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna – a wonderful wild coastline, dotted with charming small coastal villages. The venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the lovely traditional local village of Nijar, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.

Prices

Prices include all yoga, 7 nights accommodation and three meals a day. All accommodation is en suite.

Transformative Yoga Retreat in Almeria, Spain

With Jeff Phenix
Cabo de Gata, near Almeria, Spain
25 Aug – 1 Sep 2018

Join senior teacher Jeff Phenix for an amazing and inspiring week of yoga and meditation in stunning Almeria, which is Spain’s sunniest region and one of the least visited.

Its proximity to North Africa means that the area is semi-desert, dry and dramatic, with imposing mountains and dazzling sea. The venue is on the edge of one of Europe’s most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline, which is an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna.

The venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the lovely traditional local village of Nijar, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.

The venue sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilizations. It has two swimming pools, one of which is a striking natural pool, fed by spring water and filtered by reed beds. It consists of the main Finca which holds a number of the bedrooms as well as the outlying Cortijo (farm) buildings have been converted in the original local style into charming accommodation, located a couple of hundred yards from the main house. Yoga will take place in a fully equipped covered outdoor yoga space.

“It is a wonderful venue, the house is very comfortable, homely and with a peaceful happy vibe. Everyone who came commented on it. The pool ( naturally filtered) has the softest water and the food is very good” Liz, yoga teacher

Yoga & Walking on the Spectacular Island of Sicily

With Elisa & Dominic Williams
Taomina Bay, Sicily
22–29 Sep 2018

Sicily, the eternal crossroads of the Mediterranean, continues to seduce visitors with its dazzling diversity of landscape, food & cultural treasures. Where better to prolong the summer?

This will be our first yoga adventure to Sicily. It is an island that we have had on our yoga retreat destination wish list for a very long time. We were contacted by the owners of a retreat centre near Taormina & it seems as though they are offering us the perfect fit.

Our Sicilian home for the yoga week, is located just 10 kilometers from Taormina where we can enjoy the retreat’s beachfront position, overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches on the Ionian Coast. The retreat is set in charming Mediterranean gardens, with terraces furnished with comfortabe sofas surrounded by jasmine & bougainvillea. Here we can enjoy the late summer sunshine, clear warm sea, individual cottage style accommodation, delicious healthy Sicilian food & maybe a little local wine!

In addition there are no shortage of places to explore on this fabulous Island. The region is well known for its dramatic scenery, well-preserved ancient ruins, delicious Sicilian food & wine & of course Mount Etna – Europe’s only active Volcano.

Our September 2018 retreat is designed to provide the perfect setting to prolong the summer, get to know some new people, nurture ourselves & prepare for the winter months ahead.
