A Christmas Retreat

With Erika Tourell
Bamboo Yoga Centre, Patnem Beach, south Goa, India
19–26 Dec 2017

Dreaming of a White Christmas? No? Then join us for an altogether different kind of christmas celebration in the golden sunshine, on the beach, for an unforgettable, transformational retreat with one of London’s much loved senior teachers.

Erika draws on thirty years study of yoga, meditation and healing to offer a unique tapestry of deep and authentic practice, inspired by a multitude of yoga styles, brilliant teachers and lineages, including hatha and kundalini yoga, daoism, buddhism, shamanism, sufi mysticism, tantra and advaita vedanta philosophy.

This yoga and meditation retreat offers the chance to escape the often frantic festive period to dive into self-enquiry and be supported by a lovely group of like-minded souls as well as the beautiful nature of south Goa.

Bamboo Yoga Retreat has been listed as one of the Guardian’s top ten retreat centres and has a consistently high Trip Advisor rating. We are looked after very well by the most wonderful, friendly team of people and fed delicious, healthy food.

The yoga shalas are open air and fully equipped with mats, bolsters, bricks, blocks, straps and eyebags allowing for a wide variety of practices in utmost comfort.

The beach bungalows are designed to blend beautifully with the breathtaking natural surroundings. Built on the fine white sand every season after the monsoon rains, using local organic materials, the bungalow style huts are simple, stylish, comfortable, private and eco-friendly. Each has it’s own private, open air bathroom and veranda with hammock.

Whether watching the eagles soar overhead from the hammock on your balcony, or falling asleep to the sound of the waves, the normal stresses of life melt away and you will feel open to a more profound yoga practice.

The Schedule (subject to change)

There will be three practices per day starting with early morning meditation and pranayama (breath work), followed by yoga postures and kriyas (strengthening purifications).
Each afternoon we will focus on a more restorative, yin style practice including pranayama, guided meditation, sessions (guided relaxation) and some partner work.

We shall also include some Vedic chanting and singing throughout the week as well as some optional free dance (5 rhythms inspired).

All levels of practitioner are welcomed on this retreat, including complete beginners. We shall build and deepen the practice as we go and lots of variations will be offered depending on your ability. You are encouraged to listen to your own body and take rest whenever you like.

There will be one day off in the week for excursions further afield or to rest.

We suggest this week be ALCOHOL FREE to allow your body to cleanse, rejuvenate and heal. If you prefer to drink alcohol we ask you not to drink at the dinner table – there are lots of charming bars and restaurants down the beach that you may like to visit before or after dinner.

Yoga Retreat in South Goa, India

With Jeff Phenix
Bamboo Yoga Centre, Patnem Beach, south Goa, India
10–17 Feb 2018

Jeff Phenix (who trains teachers and teaches at London’s leading yoga centres, Triyoga and The Life Centre) is returning for a very special week of transformative and inspirational yoga at the stunning beach yoga holiday venue, Bamboo Yoga Retreat, which is located right at the end of Patnem Beach in South Goa.

Considered one of the most amazing spaces to practice yoga in Goa, we will be practicing in the open-air Shala, which has soul-feeding views over Patnem beach and out to sea. There will be two long yoga sessions and day, 2 delicious buffet meals and an optional sunset dolphin boat trip.

Jeff is very experienced at teaching students of all levels and the depth of his experience, playful approach, ability to challenge students to safely push their boundaries and his love of pranayama and meditation will give you the perfect opportunity to deepen your practice both physically and internally. In this amazing environment right on a beautiful beach you can enjoy making new friends, eating delicious, healthy food and can return home feeling recharged, energized and relaxed.

Please see www.bamboo-yoga-retreat.com for more pictures and details.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in charmingly simple shared ensuite beach hut bungalows. As we will be sharing the retreat centre with other guests who are doing ‘drop-in’ classes with local teachers the number of huts that are available to our group is limited we would like to encourage people to share. Often a large proportion of people coming on Jeff’s yoga holidays will be coming alone so sharing is part of a retreat experience and is a great way to make new friends. Consider coming with a friend, bringing a non-yoga partner or if not we can pair you with someone else of the same sex who is also travelling alone, however for those who prefer their own space singles are available.
‘Deciding to go to India for the first time, on my own to a retreat where I didn’t know anyone else turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made! My week in Goa with you (at Bamboo) really was one of the best experiences of my life. I escaped my routine, met and talked to like-minded yogis who were all so welcoming and open and really went deep into my own practice. Not only did it reaffirm my love for yoga but reminded me how important it is to take time out for myself.

Jeff you inspired me so much with your warmth as well as your humor and your knowledge, range of inspirational readings and creating beautiful practices is something I will really treasure.’ (Sarah, 2017)

Schedule

Arrival day is on Sat 10th February 2018 when we will have a welcome session in the late afternoon and then there will be 2 yoga classes per day. Mid week there will be one shorter afternoon practice to allow for a sunset dolphin boat trip (which is included in the holiday price), or more relaxation on the beach!

The morning session at 8am will be around 2.5 hours and will be followed by a delicious vegetarian brunch. It will be the more vigorous and dynamic practice and will usually include some meditation and/or pranayama. A creative, playful and explorative ‘deep slow flow’ asana practice emphasizing the breath, mindfulness and skillful appropriate action that will – by using and building up through a range of appropriate options – allow students, from the less experienced to the more advanced, to discover how to find and work peacefully at the level appropriate to them.

The afternoon session at 4.30pm is around 1.5/2 hours and will be a more mellow, soothing and nurturing practice, delving into areas such as yin yoga, restoratives, pranayama, chakras and meditation. A delicious vegetarian evening buffet will then be served.

The rest of the time will be free to do as you please…enjoying the beach, hammocks, massage, reading, optional activities and excursions, coconut trees and sunsets etc!

Sacred & Soulful Spain Retreat

With Tanja Mickwitz
Finca Del Alamo, Almeria, Spain
26 May – 2 Jun 2018

Join Tanja for a Springtime retreat at spectacular Finca del Alamo in Almeria, southern Spain. This week will be an opportunity to embrace the light of summer and fill yourself up with soul nourishment.

We will move through a full spectrum of yogic practices to nurture deep inner connection including creative flow with mindful alignment, mantra, mudra, pranayama, meditation, yoga nidra and restorative yoga. Yogic philosophy and inspiration will be woven through the practices with opportunity for reflection and contemplation. Each day will begin with practice before breakfast and there will be a second practice before dinner. Days will be free for relaxing in the tranquil surroundings, visits to the beach or other local excursions. There will be one day with no yoga to provide an opportunity to rest (lie in!) or make longer trips.

The venue consists of the main house (Finca), which won awards in the 80’s for its striking modernist design. It sits in the semi-desert landscape amid lush gardens, its architecture echoing ancient Mediterranean civilizations. It has long been a stylish, bohemian family home, also an exotic venue for photo shoots. It has now been adapted to cater for yoga groups. The outlying Cortijo (farm) buildings have been converted in the original local style into charming accommodation, located a couple of hundred yards from the main house. The cortijo has its own swimming pool and a covered outdoor yoga space.

Almeria is Spain’s sunniest region and one of the least visited. Its proximity to North Africa means that the area is semi-desert, dry and dramatic, with imposing mountains and dazzling sea. The venue is on the edge of one of Europe’s most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline.
It’s an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna – a wonderful wild coastline, dotted with charming small coastal villages. The venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the lovely traditional local village of Nijar, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.

Prices

Prices include all yoga, 7 nights accommodation and three meals a day. All accommodation is en suite.

Prices:
£925pp shared
£1075pp single
