Sound Healing with Sonia Anderson

With Sound Baths exploding in popularity over the past couple of years, it’s likely that you’ve experienced the healing and relaxing powers of sound yourself. But did you know that Sound Healing can have an even greater effect when done on a one-to-one basis? Sonia Anderson explains more about Sound Healing and what you can expect from her treatments.

How did you discover sound healing and what led you to become a sound healer?

My first experience with sound healing was at a retreat in Norfolk, I was blown away from how I felt after the sound bath. At the time I was going through a horrible divorce and found that sound healing really helped me to work through my emotions and shift the energy so I could heal from the trauma. I have always been a very busy person so for me to relax and find time for myself was hard until I discovered sound healing. Because it was so effective for me personally, I started to research and train to be sound therapist. It really does help me on a day-to-day basis and nothing gives me as much pleasure as introducing new people to the benefits of sound.

What can someone expect from one of your treatments?

They can expect a nurturing sanctuary, filled with beautiful aromas and candles. I work intuitively using Reiki and different healing frequencies from my Crystal Singing Bowls, Tibetan Bowls, Tuning Forks, Gong, Shamanic Drum, Chimes. By creating a relaxing space this then allows you to fall into deep conscious state, using my hands I help to locate and remove blockages bringing your energy back into alignment. During the session you can experience various sensations within the body which are part of a energetic release incurring. I select and play various instruments on or around your body, bringing your emotional, mental, physical self back in to harmony. These treatments will leave you feeling rejuvenated, focused, energised, positive and balanced.

How does sound healing work?

Every organ, cell, bone, tissue and liquid of the body has a vibratory frequency. When an organ or body part is healthy, it creates a natural resonant frequency in harmony with the rest of the body. When the vibration of a part of the body is out of harmony, we have dis-ease. With dis-ease, a different sound pattern is established in the affected part of the body. When sound is projected into the dis-eased area, correct harmonic patterns are restored. Sound helps to facilitate shifts in our brainwave state by using entrainment. Entrainment synchronizes our fluctuating brainwaves by providing a stable frequency, which the brainwave can attune to. The naturally occurring binaural beats from the gongs and the tuning forks create a pulsating tone that feels good and helps you to relax.

What ailments or conditions can sound healing is used to treat?

There are many scientific studies ongoing around the world that show sound healing has helped cure many diseases and health problems. I’ve worked with all sorts of people from physical, mental and emotional problems who suffer with stress, anxiety, depression, physical injuries, insomnia and addictions. I also work with pregnant women helping to provide them with the rest they need or simply just providing a space for someone to come and relax. Sound therapy is said to help not only physical illness, but also help balance the emotions and quieten a busy mind. Sound healing has been around for centuries and I believe it is capable of helping anyone and anything.

How does 1:1 sound healing differ from a sound bath?

A 1:1 session is personalised, focusing on your needs rather than a groups needs. I start the session using Reiki then I will place my scared instruments on and around your body. Combining sounds and Reiki is a powerful technique which helps you move into a deep state on consciousness, allowing me to work on your body energetically helping to balance or remove what no longer serves you. Clients say that the personalised sound treatments are a lot deeper and more intense than they have experienced in a group sound bath. I create a very nurturing space that is open to anyone’s needs.

Can you tell us about the different instruments you use and what they do?

My sound family includes Gongs, Crystal Singing Bowls, Tuning forks, Tibetan bowls, Drum, Meinl chimes, Shakers, Rain stick, Burmese spinning gong, Koshi chimes. The sounds from these instruments will affect the whole individual, balancing first the energetic body and chakras and then cleansing the auric field. The crystal singing bowls and Tibetan bowls produce tones that help to slow down the brain waves and heart rate producing a deep sense of calm and well-being. The vibrations of the tuning forks increase the amount of energy in parts of the body they are trying to heal or energies. The Gong is a powerful therapeutic instrument that is said to resolve physical, emotional and spiritual dissonance. Shamanic drumming rhythms act as sonic drives, creating a shift in your brain rhyme from busy Beta to Theta state. The chime and rainstick and are used for inducing states of peace and calm.
